Daiki Hashimoto of Japan won his fourth consecutive men’s all-around title at the World Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam on Thursday, sealing gold with a brilliant 14.766 routine on the high bar in the final rotation (AP via Mainichi).
The 25-year-old, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic all-around champion, totalled 85.998 (NBC Sports), finishing 1.799 points clear of China’s Yang Haonan on 84.199, with Great Britain’s Joe Fraser third on 83.531 (GymCastic).
It is the largest margin of victory in a men’s all-around at an Olympics or world championships since Kohei Uchimura won by 1.958 in 2013 (NBC Sports). Hashimoto’s run of four straight world titles leaves him two short of the record shared by Uchimura and Simone Biles, who each won six (NBC Sports).
Hashimoto overcame a sluggish start on floor exercise that left him 10th after the first rotation (AP via Mainichi). Uchimura, who retired in 2021, was in attendance in Rotterdam (NBC Sports).
