Kvaratskhelia faces surgery after rupturing ACL in PSG's win over Barcelona
PSG have confirmed that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Barcelona and will undergo surgery in the coming days.
Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Tuesday’s 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona and will undergo surgery in the coming days, with no timeline given for his recovery (Sky Sports).
The 25-year-old Georgian winger twisted his knee just before the hour mark at the Parc des Princes and was helped off the pitch, unable to put any weight on his right leg (Reuters). PSG’s official statement reads: “Having suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday’s match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days” (AFP via Free Malaysia Today).
Kvaratskhelia, named the Champions League’s best player last season and a 2026 Ballon d’Or nominee after helping PSG to back-to-back European titles and Ligue 1 glory, will definitely miss the trip to Aston Villa on 8 December, and Sky notes the injury raises serious doubts over whether he plays again this season.
It was a brutal night for the European champions’ treatment room: Ousmane Dembele, the reigning Ballon d’Or holder, came off in the 19th minute with a thigh injury, and captain Marquinhos was also substituted with a thigh problem. PSG say both “will remain under treatment for the next few weeks”. PSG top the Champions League table with three wins from three.
