A Pakistan Army major was martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Balochistan’s Gwadar district on Sunday, while security forces killed four militants in a separate operation in Kalat district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.

Security forces conducted operations in the Shadi Kaur area of Gwadar and Jattakabad in Kalat district on the reported presence of militants, the military’s media wing said (Geo News).

The ISPR said security forces first conducted an intelligence-based operation in Jattakabad, targeting a militant hideout, in which four militants were killed and a large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered.

Separately, during clearance operations in Shadi Kaur, Gwadar, a security forces contingent was targeted with an IED, resulting in the martyrdom of Major Wajahat Waheed, 37, a resident of Lahore.

The ISPR said clearance operations would continue until the remaining militants in the area had been eliminated. The military described the killed militants as India-sponsored.

Pakistan has seen a sharp rise in militant attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, in recent years. September 2026 recorded the highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years, with 225 attacks logged, up 13 per cent on August, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (Geo News).
