India tells Pakistan at UN to vacate 'illegally occupied' Kashmir territory

ANI reports that India's First Secretary Raghoo Puri told Pakistan at a UN General Assembly Third Committee dialogue to vacate territory under its illegal occupation in Jammu and Kashmir, and to prioritise its own citizens rather than act on military directives.

India has told Pakistan at the United Nations to vacate territory under its illegal occupation in Jammu and Kashmir, ANI reports from New York (https://m.dailyhunt.in/news/india/english/ani%20english-epaper-anieng/vacate%20illegally%20occupied%20territory%20in%20jammu%20and%20kashmir%20focus%20on%20your%20own%20citizens%20rather%20than%20taking%20military%20directives%20india%20slams%20pakistan%20at%20un-newsid-n731507457).

Speaking at the UN General Assembly Third Committee Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, India’s First Secretary at the Permanent Mission to the UN, Raghoo Puri, said Pakistan had misused the forum, ANI reports. “Pakistan predictably misused the forum for propaganda. Jammu & Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India. Pakistan must vacate the territory under its illegal occupation,” Puri said.

ANI reports that Puri added that Pakistan’s representatives would do well to look inwards and prioritise the welfare of their own people rather than acting on military directives, and that they should focus on their own citizens instead of following the dictates of their military.

On minority rights, Puri said the protection of minority rights is primarily the sovereign duty of states, guided by the principle of sovereign equality, ANI reports. He pointed to India’s constitutional safeguards for both religious and linguistic minorities, and said minorities have contributed immensely to India’s national development, including at the highest levels of government and key institutions.

This is a separate exchange from the 23 October one covered in Flip News’s own 23 October article, in which a different speaker — First Secretary Bhavika Mangalanandan — addressed Pakistan during an interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief (https://flipnews.co.uk/world/india-un-mangalanandan-minority-rights/). The Puri exchange reported here took place in a different forum, the dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, and is reported by ANI with a New York dateline of 25 October.

A search found the same ANI account syndicated across Dailyhunt, MENAFN/AsiaNet and Khelja, with no second independent account of the Puri exchange located; this article therefore attributes every substantive claim to ANI and adds nothing beyond its copy and the identified prior Flip News article.
