Elon Musk said on Monday he will give one SpaceX share to every child in America next year, calling it “the first of many” such gifts.

“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” Musk wrote in a short post on X. “This will be the first of many.”

Musk gave no details of how the distribution would work: no eligibility criteria, no timing, no regulatory pathway, and no word on whether the shares would be transferred directly or held through a trust or custodial structure.

The announcement came the same day Musk was reacting to Anthropic’s newly announced Public Benefit Fund, arguing that companies sitting on large pools of equity should “give the shares directly to the public” rather than route them through separate philanthropic structures.

The pledge has a clear financial anchor. SpaceX listed on Nasdaq — including the new Nasdaq Texas market — on 12 June 2026 under the ticker SPCX, pricing its IPO at $135 a share and raising about $85.7 billion by the time the offering closed on 15 June. The stock closed at $146.03 on Friday. A recent regulatory filing shows Musk held a 48.4 per cent stake as of 30 June, about 6.42 billion shares, including 849.5 million Class A shares and 3.92 billion Class B shares held through trusts.

SpaceX spans commercial launches, the Starlink satellite internet business and human spaceflight, after more than two decades as a private company founded by Musk in 2002.
