According to an affidavit provided to ESPN by the prosecutor’s office, Richardson was pulled over by a Carmel patrol officer on October 12. Court documents obtained by FOX59 say the black 2023 Dodge Charger was stopped over an expired registration that was assigned to a different vehicle. (Athlon)

The officer reported smelling marijuana while approaching the car. The affidavit states Richardson admitted he had smoked marijuana in the vehicle to avoid smoking it at home around his children. He was asked to leave the car and was briefly detained in handcuffs while officers searched it. (TSN)

Officers said they found a small mason jar holding a substance believed to be marijuana and an opened bag of 500-milligram THC-infused gummies in the glove compartment. The items tested positive for THC and were confiscated. (Heavy) (Athlon)

Richardson was allowed to leave without being arrested. He received a citation for the expired registration and a summons for possession of marijuana. (NBC Sports)

“We are aware of the situation involving Anthony Richardson and are currently gathering additional information,” the Colts said in a statement. “We will have no further comment at this time.” (TSN)

Online court records show Richardson’s initial hearing, scheduled for December 9, was waived, and a bench trial is set for January 4, 2027. The charge is an allegation, not a conviction, and the case remains subject to the legal process. (Heavy)

Richardson, 24, was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Florida, where he spent three seasons. The Colts declined the fifth-year option on his contract in April, which would make him a free agent after the 2026 season. (Gainesville Sun)
