Former Port Adelaide forward Daniel Stewart has died suddenly at the age of 37, the Australian Football League club confirmed on Saturday, describing the news as a shock, The Guardian reported (https://www.europesays.com/australia/128376/).

Stewart, a key forward, played 36 games and kicked 31 goals for Port Adelaide between 2010 and 2013, after being picked at No. 35 in the 2009 rookie draft following stints with the Eastern Ranges, Labrador and North Adelaide. He died on Friday; no cause of death has been disclosed.

Port Adelaide chief executive Matthew Richardson extended the club’s condolences to Stewart’s mother Donna, father Byron, wife Laura, sons Bernie and Lando and brother Leigh, and said the club would provide support to former team-mates, coaches and staff. “Daniel was part of the Port Adelaide football family, and he always will be,” Richardson said, as reported by CODE Sports (https://www.codesports.com.au/afl/former-port-adelaide-star-daniel-stewart-dies-aged-37/news-story/5be3400e2d98a929c392a94220527010). The club will honour him by wearing black armbands in its first home game at Adelaide Oval in 2027.

His wife Laura wrote on social media: “Devastated to confirm the loss of our world. A heart too big for this world. We love you so much daddy. Please respect our privacy as we navigate this incredible loss and prioritise our boys,” The Sun reported (https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/40794156/daniel-stewart-dead-port-adelaide-afl-news/).
