The FBI has detained Himanshu Bhau, one of north India’s most wanted gangsters, in the Las Vegas, Nevada region, following inputs from Indian agencies, the Times of India reported on Saturday, citing sources. NDTV reported that he was arrested on Friday. These are “sources said” reports; the FBI has not publicly confirmed the arrest.

Bhau’s real name is Himanshu Ritoliya, Firstpost reported. Born in 2002 in Ritoli village in Haryana’s Rohtak district, he is on the most-wanted lists of the Delhi Police, the Haryana Police and the National Investigation Agency. Interpol issued a Red Notice against him in August 2023, when he was wanted in 18 cases involving murder, attempted murder, extortion and forgery. India TV reported that around 50 cases are registered against him in Haryana alone.

Investigators have linked Bhau and his alleged gang to the killing at a Burger King outlet in Delhi, firing outside the residence of YouTuber Elvish Yadav, and shootings at gym owners’ premises. His name also surfaced in the September murder of gym trainer Vijay Kumar in Delhi’s Aya Nagar: officers are verifying a social media post attributed to Bhau that claimed responsibility.

The Times of India reported that Bhau fled India in 2022 on a passport allegedly obtained with forged documents, moving through Dubai and Portugal before reportedly reaching the US. He is described as a rival of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and the Goldy Brar network, and India is expected to seek his custody in the coming days.
