One dead as fire engulfs five shops in Noida's Sector 126

One person died after a fire broke out at five temporary shops in Raipur village, under Sector 126 police station limits in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, police said. The shops, food and beverage outlets behind Raipur Temple, were evacuated as the blaze spread to adjoining establishments, according to reports from the Press Trust of India (PTI), IANS and ABP Live.

Six fire tenders were used to bring the blaze under control, police said. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Noida Abhay Kumar Mishra told reporters that 12 fire brigade vehicles had reached the spot, of which six were used, and that senior officers were present at the scene.

During the firefighting operation, a person was found unconscious and taken to hospital, where doctors declared them dead, police said. The person’s identity had not yet been ascertained, and further legal proceedings were under way.

Noida Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar Chaubey told ETV Bharat the fire broke out at a fast-food shop during construction work and spread to nearby shops, with a short circuit suspected as the trigger. He said firefighters found a large number of LPG cylinders inside the shops and carried out search-and-rescue checks for anyone trapped, with one fire tender remaining on site for cooling operations.

A gas-cylinder explosion was also reported as suspected in preliminary information carried by IANS and ABP Live, but the exact cause of the fire had not been confirmed, and further details were awaited.
