Vance says he may not run for president in 2028 despite Trump's backing

Vice President JD Vance told CBS News' Tony Dokoupil there is "of course" a chance he will not seek the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, despite being viewed as Donald Trump's likeliest successor.

US Vice President JD Vance has said he has not decided whether to seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2028, acknowledging he could stay out of the race despite being widely viewed as President Donald Trump’s likeliest successor (https://www.aa.com.tr/en/americas/us-vice-president-says-he-has-yet-to-decide-on-2028-presidential-run/4092379).

Asked by CBS News anchor Tony Dokoupil during an hour-long Michigan town hall, released on Saturday night, whether there was a chance he might not run, Vance replied: “Of course there’s a chance”. Calling himself a procrastinator on major decisions, Vance said he would “have to think about it”, citing his four young children and his wife, Usha Vance, who he said “has never loved politics” but “loves public service” (https://saudigazette.com.sa/article/665513/world/jd-vance-says-he-may-not-run-for-president-in-2028-despite-trumps-backing).

The remarks came despite Trump’s endorsement of Vance as his “most likely” Republican successor, placing him among the most prominent potential candidates for the 2028 nomination (https://saudigazette.com.sa/article/665513/world/jd-vance-says-he-may-not-run-for-president-in-2028-despite-trumps-backing).

Vance also defended the administration’s economic and foreign policy. He acknowledged “gas prices are too high right now”, but said they would come down “when this conflict is over”, referring to Iran. He argued the United States had “in some ways … won decisively” against Iran, saying Washington wanted a “final firm commitment from the Iranians that they’re not going to rebuild their nuclear program”. He also rejected corruption allegations, saying he had seen “not … a single shred of evidence” supporting them (https://tribune.com.pk/story/2635529/us-vice-president-says-he-has-yet-to-decide-on-2028-presidential-run).
