Trump approval hits record low of 33 percent in Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, 16 days before midterms
A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll released on Sunday puts Donald Trump at 33 percent approval against 66 percent disapproval, his lowest mark in the outlets polling, with the midterm elections 16 days away.
President Donald Trump’s approval rating has hit a new low in a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll released on Sunday, with just 33 percent of US adults approving of his job performance and 66 percent disapproving, USA Today reported.
It is Trump’s lowest mark in the outlets’ polling, down from 37 percent approval in April and July surveys, and nearly mirrors a Fox News poll released on 14 October that recorded his lowest rating in that network’s polling across either of his terms. Fifty-two percent of respondents in the Post-ABC poll said they strongly disapprove.
The survey lands just over two weeks before the midterm elections on Tuesday, 3 November, historically challenging for the party holding the White House. For the first time in over a decade, Democrats are seen as more trustworthy on the economy than Republicans, by 40 percent to 33 percent, and Democrats hold an eight-point lead for control of the House among registered voters, up from three points in July.
Around three in four Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the cost of living and inflation, and 72 percent say the country is heading in the wrong direction, up five points since April.
The poll was conducted from 9 to 13 October among 2,545 US adults, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
