Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has been ruled out for up to eight weeks after scans confirmed a knee injury sustained in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Ipswich Town, while Erling Haaland could be fit for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with AEK Athens, manager Enzo Maresca said (Reuters).

Speaking at Monday’s pre-match press conference, Maresca said Semenyo’s collateral ligament injury was not as bad as first feared but would keep the 26-year-old out until December.

“It could be eight weeks. Now the most important thing is recovery. When he is back in December it will be like a new player. Collateral. It’s not muscle,” Maresca said (Manchester City).

Semenyo, who joined City from Bournemouth in January, limped down the tunnel late at the Etihad after coming on as a substitute. He has two goals and three assists in seven Premier League appearances this season (Channel News Asia).

There was better news on Haaland, who took a knock on his foot and ankle in stoppage time on Saturday after scoring twice against Ipswich. “He can be available,” Maresca said. “He was quite good yesterday, better. We will see today. We have some doubts after Saturday’s game.”

The Norwegian’s double kept City perfect in the Premier League with seven straight wins, and he has now scored in eight consecutive appearances for the club, with 12 goals in that run (Al Jazeera).

City sit 17th in the Champions League table with three points from two matches, having lost to Paris Saint-Germain, and host AEK Athens at the Etihad on Tuesday night (Reuters).
