Megan Schutt suspended for two matches over prescription-medication breach
Cricket Australia has suspended fast bowler Megan Schutt for two matches after she breached prescription-medication guidelines in a single out-of-competition incident that was not performance-enhancing.
Australian fast bowler Megan Schutt has been suspended for two matches after breaching Cricket Australia’s rules on prescription medication, the board confirmed on Thursday.
The 33-year-old accepted the sanction for a single incident that occurred while out of competition and was not performance-enhancing, Cricket Australia said in a statement. The board described the breach as “a failure to adhere to requirements under the Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines with regard to prescription medication”.
The two-match ban covers both international and domestic cricket. Schutt will miss Australia’s third and final T20 against New Zealand on Thursday, as well as the Adelaide Strikers’ Women’s Big Bash League opener later this month.
“I fully accept the penalty handed down and apologise for failing to meet the standards expected of me,” Schutt said. “I’m sorry for the attention this has caused and appreciate the support I’ve received.”
Cricket Australia added: “We will continue to provide appropriate support to Megan and reinforce the standards and responsibilities expected of everyone representing our game.”
Schutt was a standout in Australia’s recent one-day series against Bangladesh and has played 114 one-day internationals and 126 T20 internationals for Australia.
