Terry McLaurin Out for Season After MRI Confirms Torn Patellar Tendon

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin will miss the rest of the 2026 season after an MRI on Tuesday confirmed he tore the patellar tendon in his left knee, head coach Dan Quinn announced. McLaurin will need surgery.

McLaurin was injured late in the first quarter of Monday night’s 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. He was running a route near the sideline when his left knee buckled as he planted to cut outside. He stayed down for several minutes before being carted off with his leg in a full air cast, and the Commanders immediately ruled him out. He had one catch for 27 yards before leaving.

Quinn relayed the MRI result to reporters on Tuesday. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter were among the first to report the confirmation, with Schefter citing the result “per HC Dan Quinn”.

The two-time Pro Bowler finishes his season with 15 receptions for 230 yards and one touchdown across five games. The 31-year-old was Washington’s third-round pick in the 2019 draft out of Ohio State, and he has been quarterback Jayden Daniels’ most trusted target.

The 1-4-1 Commanders are last in the NFC East. They have a bye in Week 7, giving the coaching staff extra time to rework the passing game before they host the Philadelphia Eagles on November 1.
