Thunder's Jalen Williams stretchered off with serious leg injury
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jalen Williams was taken off on a stretcher with a significant left leg injury late in Sunday's 108-101 win over the LA Clippers, with the team giving no immediate word on the diagnosis.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jalen Williams was taken off the floor on a stretcher after suffering a significant injury to his left leg in Sunday night’s 108-101 win over the LA Clippers, ESPN reported.
Williams was hurt with about 1:15 remaining in the fourth quarter at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, when he drove to the basket, was fouled by Clippers guard Kris Dunn, and landed awkwardly with his left leg bending unnaturally beneath him. A staff member covered his lower leg with a towel as he was attended to on the floor.
Dunn’s foul was upgraded to a flagrant 1 after review, USA Today reported. Williams, who had scored eight points, was wheeled off to a standing ovation, giving the crowd two thumbs up as fans chanted “J-Dub”.
There was no immediate word from the team on the injury, ESPN reported. “I just feel bad for him,” team-mate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said, fighting back tears after the game. “He’s not gone forever. He’ll be back better than ever.”
Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said: “Those are tough, man. We’re not doing great.” Williams played in just 33 games last season, largely because of a hamstring injury, and was averaging 16.5 points per game this season, NBC Sports reported.
Team-mates Cason Wallace, with left shoulder soreness, and Jaylin Williams, with right wrist soreness, also left the game in the first quarter and did not return, TSN reported.
