Apple sends October 28 'Pro and tell' invites as touchscreen MacBooks tipped

Apple has sent media invitations for a 'Pro and tell' product experience in Los Angeles on October 28, where Bloomberg's Mark Gurman expects the first touchscreen MacBooks to debut.

Apple has sent media invitations for its third product event of the season, confirming a “Pro and tell” product experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28. The company invited press and influencers to get an early look at new devices at the all-day affair, Engadget reported.

The invitations, sent out on Monday, October 19, carry the “Pro and tell” tagline — a nod to the Pro-branded hardware expected on the day. According to MacRumors, the wording suggests Apple’s long-rumoured touch-enabled laptops will keep the MacBook Pro name rather than adopting a new “MacBook Ultra” label, a branding direction that once looked likely but now appears shelved.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who first reported the gathering, expects the event to centre on touchscreen MacBook Pros with OLED displays in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The machines are said to be significantly lighter than current Pro models, and would mark a sharp reversal for Apple after years of senior executives dismissing the touchscreen laptop idea. Gurman also expects M6-powered refreshes of the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac, plus an OLED iPad mini.

These remain expectations rather than confirmations: Apple has confirmed only the event itself, and the company is not expected to stage a traditional livestreamed keynote. Like the New York experience it held on October 13, the Los Angeles gathering is a hands-on showcase for media and creators. Expectation management aside, the October 28 date is now official — and if the reporting holds, it will be the most significant Mac launch in years.
