Yaw Ampofo Ankrah "200% confident" of exoneration in Ghana World Cup visa scandal
Suspended NSA boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah says he is "200% confident" he will be cleared over alleged $623,000 visa racketeering linked to Ghana's 2026 World Cup campaign.
Suspended National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has declared himself “200% confident” he will be exonerated in an investigation into alleged visa racketeering linked to Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Speaking to the media after the beach soccer finals, Ampofo Ankrah said he respected the investigative process and would wait for the final report before making further comments. He urged the media and public to be cautious about spreading unverified information.
“I’m 200% confident that I’ll be exonerated,” he said. “People should be very cautious about what they put out there that they cannot verify.”
Ampofo Ankrah was suspended following allegations that about US$623,000 had been received from prospective travellers seeking help with visa applications and travel arrangements for the tournament. The suspension followed a directive from President John Dramani Mahama.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is investigating the allegations. Ampofo Ankrah said he had met police on two occasions, was cooperating fully, and described the investigation as going smoothly.
Professor Emmanuel Osei Sarpong has been appointed Acting Director-General of the NSA while the probe continues. No findings have been announced.
