Houthi projectile injures six in Saudi Arabia's Najran, civil defense says

Six Saudi citizens were injured and three homes and three vehicles damaged when a projectile struck a residential area of Najran on Sunday, Saudi Civil Defense said.

RIYADH — Six Saudi citizens were injured and three homes and three vehicles were damaged after a projectile struck a residential area of Najran, in southwestern Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, the Saudi Civil Defense said.

A Civil Defense spokesman said attempts to target civilian objects constitute “a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law” and that established procedures for such incidents had been implemented, Arab News reported, citing the Saudi Press Agency.

The agency had issued early-warning alerts of potential danger in the border city earlier on Sunday afternoon before later announcing the danger had passed, Aaj TV reported.

Arab News, Aaj TV and Gulf Insider, citing the Saudi Gazette, identified the projectile as Houthi-fired. Yeni Safak, however, noted that the Civil Defense statement it reported did not name the party responsible for the strike.

The strike is the latest cross-border incident amid fighting in Yemen that has repeatedly spilled into Saudi Arabia, with Saudi officials reporting similar attacks on civilian areas in the kingdom’s southwestern provinces in recent months.
