Russia pounded Kyiv with ballistic missiles overnight while Ukraine sent hundreds of drones towards Moscow, escalating strikes despite the latest US push to end the conflict (Reuters).

Ukraine said Russia fired at least 21 ballistic missiles in three waves. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said two people were killed and 34 injured, including five children, across a dozen Ukrainian regions, and alleged three missiles carried cluster munitions — “bomblets” banned by many countries. Russia’s defence ministry did not immediately respond (Reuters).

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least 15 people were wounded in the capital overnight, eight hospitalised, and that metro infrastructure on the Southern Bridge over the Dnipro was damaged, restricting traffic (UNN; Babel).

Russia said Ukraine launched 630 drones towards Moscow overnight; Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said most were downed at long range, with two injured in the wider region (Reuters; AnewZ). In Lipetsk, drones hit apartment buildings and a medical centre, injuring one, Governor Igor Artamonov said; in Belgorod, officials said one man was killed and another wounded by Ukrainian drones (AnewZ; Reuters).

Russia said on Wednesday it was ready to resume US-mediated talks next month after President Vladimir Putin hosted US envoy Steve Witkoff in St Petersburg; Zelenskyy hopes negotiations — the first since February — happen early in November (Reuters). But Kyiv fumed at Witkoff’s praise of Putin as a “humanitarian”: “Three waves of ballistic missiles have been launched at Kyiv by Russian ‘humanitarians’ since yesterday evening,” Zelenskyy posted on X (Reuters).
