Trump re-endorses Netanyahu on election eve, urging Israelis to 'finish the job' against Iran

Donald Trump has issued a second endorsement of Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s parliamentary election on Tuesday 27 October, republishing the endorsement he first gave on 18 October and urging Israelis to return Netanyahu to office.

In a Truth Social post shared on Monday morning India time, Trump addressed voters who had not seen the message. “To the people of Israel, to those who haven’t seen it, I am attaching the endorsement I gave one week ago to your prime minister, Bibi Netanyahu,” he wrote, describing their relationship as one of “winning together” and calling Netanyahu an “outstanding warrior prime minister”.

Trump urged voters to back Netanyahu so the two leaders could “finish the job that we started”, linking the appeal to the campaign against Iran and repeating his warning from the original endorsement that the United States would have to confront Iran alone if Israel chose “the wrong leader”.

The intervention comes on the eve of an election that is the first since the Hamas-led attacks of 7 October 2023, with polls suggesting Netanyahu’s coalition is short of the 61 seats needed for a majority in the 120-seat Knesset.

Axios reported that Netanyahu had pressed Trump in recent days for another public show of support; a Likud spokesperson denied that the prime minister had asked for fresh backing.

Yashar leader Gadi Eisenkot, Netanyahu’s challenger, responded that Trump was “a true friend of Israel” and said he was confident Trump would work with “any leader chosen by the people”.
