Kotak Mahindra Bank gets RBI nod to appoint Anup Kumar Saha as MD and CEO

Kotak Mahindra Bank says the Reserve Bank of India has approved Anup Kumar Saha as its next managing director and CEO, effective January 2027.

Kotak Mahindra Bank said on Thursday that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of Anup Kumar Saha as its managing director and chief executive officer for three years, effective 1 January 2027.

Saha is currently a whole-time director — an executive director — overseeing the retail bank, government business, data analytics and marketing. He joined the lender in January this year. He succeeds Ashok Vaswani, whose tenure ends on 31 December 2026. The bank said its board will initiate steps to formalise the appointment and seek shareholders’ approval.

Saha brings more than 32 years of professional experience, including 25 in financial services. Before joining Kotak, he held senior leadership roles at Bajaj Finance, culminating in managing director and CEO. Earlier, during a 14-year stint at ICICI Bank, he led businesses spanning retail secured assets, business intelligence, collections, credit cards and retail structured finance. He began his career at Bharat Heavy Electricals and later worked with GE Capital. He holds a BTech from IIT Kharagpur and an MBA from IIM Lucknow.

Chairman C S Rajan said Saha brings extensive experience across banking and financial services. Vaswani said he was confident Saha would deepen customer relationships and move forward “with purpose and discipline”. Saha said he was grateful for the board’s trust and looked forward to building sustainable shareholder value.

Shares were up over 2% to Rs 427 on the NSE in early trade following the announcement.
