Elon Musk says Delta chief Ed Bastian "will lose his job" over Starlink snub
Elon Musk has told Delta CEO Ed Bastian he "will lose his job over this" after reports claimed Bastian told employees Delta rejected Starlink because it did not want to do business with Musk.
Elon Musk has answered reports that Delta chief executive Ed Bastian badmouthed him to employees with one sentence on X: “He will lose his job over this,” per reports of the post from aggregators and aviation forums.
The spat began when JonNYC reported on X on 29 September that Bastian had told employees at two internal events that Delta passed on Starlink because it did not want to do business with Musk. JonNYC caveated the account: “I’m putting the below in quotes as this is how it was sent to me. HOWEVER, I do NOT know if the quotes within the quotes below are accurate.”
According to JonNYC’s account, Bastian said: “We do not want to be with Elon Musk. Trust me.” At a separate, earlier event, he reportedly said Delta had tested Starlink but would not partner with Musk: “If you know his reputation, it’s all true what they say about him.”
The remarks have not been confirmed by Delta — they are reported internal comments, not established fact.
Leo will not enter beta until next year and Delta plans to equip only about half its fleet, while United, Southwest, American and Alaska press ahead with Starlink.
Musk had earlier criticised Delta’s stance in a 13 May post quoted by the blog, saying Starlink Wi-Fi must “just work effortlessly every time, as though you were at home” and that “Delta wanted to make it painful, difficult and expensive for their customers.”
