OpenAI's revenue run rate nears $70 billion as enterprise sales more than double

OpenAI is on pace for an annualized revenue run rate of nearly $70 billion, a more than 70% jump since July, Axios and Reuters reported, citing sources familiar with the company's finances.

OpenAI’s annualized revenue run rate is approaching $70 billion, driven by a more than twofold increase in enterprise sales since July, sources familiar with the matter told Axios and Reuters on Tuesday.

The figures mark a dramatic acceleration for the ChatGPT maker. Axios first reported that the annualized run rate had risen more than 70% since the start of the third quarter, with business-to-business revenue more than doubling over the same period. On the consumer side, OpenAI added more revenue in the third quarter than it did in all of 2025 combined, according to a source who spoke to Reuters and declined to be named because the matter was private.

The pace is a sharp step up from August, when Bloomberg reported the company was on track for annualized revenue of more than $40 billion — itself around double its run rate from the end of 2025. Axios noted that details of OpenAI’s expenses were not disclosed, a crucial gap in assessing the sustainability of the growth.

The news lifted shares of Oracle, OpenAI’s critical computing infrastructure partner, by 5.3%. “Oracle’s fate is largely tied to the success of OpenAI, which represents around half of its compute backlog,” said Gil Luria, managing director at equity research firm D.A. Davidson. “OpenAI accelerating growth is a very good sign for Oracle, as it reinforces OpenAI’s ability to live up to its expectations for compute capacity.”

The growth comes as OpenAI and rival Anthropic prepare for public offerings. Both have filed confidential IPO paperwork, according to PYMNTS; Anthropic, which reported a $42 billion net loss in 2025 in its prospectus, is expected to list this autumn, while OpenAI has said it will not go public this year.
