All My Children star Alan Dysert dies aged 75

All My Children actor Alan Dysert, best known as con-man Sean Cudahy on the long-running soap, has died aged 75, his wife Michele has announced.

All My Children actor Alan Dysert has died aged 75, his wife Michele has announced.

Michele shared the news in a Facebook post on Sunday, 25 October. “My heart is broken as I share that my beloved husband, Alan, passed away on October 23, 2026,” she wrote. “While I am struggling to imagine life without him, I am forever grateful to have experienced what so many people spend their lives searching for — the love of a lifetime.”

No cause of death was shared. Michele noted that her husband had faced more than his share of health challenges over the years, yet continued to approach life with determination, humour and gratitude.

Dysert had previously revealed in his 2023 memoir, Lights, Camera, Cancer!, that he had been diagnosed with a rare, aggressive and incurable cancer. According to the book’s synopsis, he had undergone four major cancer-related surgeries, one recurrence, many rounds of chemotherapy and 29 CT scans.

He was best known for playing con-man Sean Cudahy on All My Children over a 10-year period, debuting in 1980 and making his final appearance in 1990, a total of 79 episodes. Born and raised on a farm in rural Illinois, he studied television arts at the University of Illinois, worked in real estate and tried stand-up comedy before making his acting debut on Soap in 1978.

His longtime agent Melinda Eisnagule told People his death was a “loss to our community and to the acting community at large”, adding: “He touched so many lives and made the industry and the world a better place every day with his positive energy and kindness.”

Dysert was a father of two sons, Cody and Cooper. Michele wrote that he had wanted his children, grandchildren, family and friends to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing.
