Walter Koenig, the actor best known as Ensign Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek television series, has died aged 90.

Koenig died of old age at his home in North Hollywood on Sunday, 25 October 2026, with his daughter, Danielle, and his niece by his side, his representative told TMZ. UNILAD also reported the death, citing the representative’s statement.

Born in Chicago in 1936, Koenig joined Star Trek in its second season, first appearing in the season two premiere, “Amok Time”, and went on to play Chekov in 36 episodes. He reprised the role on the big screen, including in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

Beyond Star Trek, Koenig played the sinister psychic Alfred Bester in Babylon 5. His representative also highlighted his recent win at the 2026 Independent Shorts Awards for his performance in the short film Mr. Fleischmann.

At conventions, the representative said, Koenig “shared his kindness, wit, and appreciation with everyone fortunate enough to meet him”. He is survived by his daughter Danielle.
