Christiane Amanpour to leave CNN after 43 years, signing off in June 2027
CNN's chief international anchor Christiane Amanpour will leave the network in June 2027 after 43 years, with her daily shows ending this December.
Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s chief international anchor, has announced she will leave the network in June 2027 after 43 years, CNN said on Monday.
“After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!” she said in a statement.
The exit is phased: her daily CNN and PBS shows — including Amanpour and Company, hosted since 2017 — end in December 2026. From January 2027 she presents a weekly show on CNN International through May, and keeps reporting for the network through a June transition. CNN
Amanpour, 68, joined CNN in 1983 as an Atlanta desk assistant. Her first major assignment was the First Gulf War; she went on to cover Bosnia, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Iran, and her eponymous CNN International show began in 2009. Reuters
CNN chairman Mark Thompson said in a memo to staff that he and Amanpour had discussed the decision for months, calling her “one of the most trusted and beloved journalists anywhere”. CNN
She continues her podcast, The Ex Files, with former husband Jamie Rubin, produced by Global, and looks forward to “interesting new projects down the line”. CNN
The announcement comes weeks after Paramount Skydance completed its Warner Bros Discovery takeover on 6 October. She made no mention of ownership in her statement; speculation about philosophical differences under David Ellison has been reported only by outlets such as the NY Post. NY Post
Her sign-off: “always be truthful, not neutral.”
