Actor Gary Wilmot, 72, reveals divorce from third wife after 23 years
Gary Wilmot, 72, has said he is divorcing his third wife Sara after 23 years of marriage, telling the Mail he now lives alone and that 'people change'.
Actor Gary Wilmot, 72, has revealed he is getting a divorce from his third wife Sara after 23 years of marriage, and that he now lives on his own. (The Sun)
Speaking to the Mail, Wilmot said: “I’m getting a divorce – at 72. When I was a child, 60 was very old, but now it seems you can go on forever. People live longer, your life goes through more phases, there seems to be more of us older ones getting divorces.”
He said he had moved out and now lives in a flat. “I live in a flat and very happy living on my own,” he said, adding that “no one else is involved” and that, while “these things are never smooth”, divorce is “the right thing for both of us”.
Wilmot met Sara, a former actress, when they both appeared in a production of Pirates of Penzance in 2000, and they married three years later. He said of the split: “As I’ve got older I don’t do much of that any more. The thing is, people change. She understands that too. I’m in a different phase of life, I feel 50.”
This is Wilmot’s third marriage, after his first wife Carol and second wife Joanne. The stage and screen star has been a familiar face for more than four decades, rising to fame in the 1980s children’s show You and Me, alongside puppets Cosmo and Dibs, before a career in West End musicals.
