Glee reboot ordered at Disney+ and Hulu with Lea Michele in talks to return
Disney+ and Hulu have ordered a Glee reboot to series, with Ryan Murphy and the original co-creators writing and Lea Michele in talks to reprise Rachel Berry.
More than a decade after the final episode aired, Glee is coming back. Disney+ and Hulu announced on Wednesday that they have ordered a Glee reboot to series, with no details on a timeline, plot or cast yet confirmed.
Original co-creator Ryan Murphy is writing the reboot alongside Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who wrote the first two seasons of the original series, with 20th Television producing. Murphy told Entertainment Tonight in September that he had finished the script and been in touch with around ten original cast members about returning.
Casting chatter began immediately. Deadline confirmed through its own sources that Lea Michele is in talks to reprise Rachel Berry, while Variety reported — citing multiple sources — that Michele “is in”, though representatives for Disney and Michele declined to comment. Heather Morris announced her own news on Instagram, writing that Brittany S. Pierce was “alive and well … and back for more”, while Chord Overstreet posted on X: “Reunited and it feels so good!” Matthew Morrison, who played glee club director Will Schuester, is not in talks yet but hopes to be involved, according to Deadline.
The original series premiered on Fox in 2009 and ran for six seasons through 2015, earning 32 Emmy nominations and six wins, nine Golden Globe nominations and four wins. The cast also suffered the deaths of original stars Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera and Mark Salling.
