Ed Sheeran's two Gillette Stadium concerts cancelled as nor'easter approaches New England

Ed Sheeran's two weekend concerts at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, have been cancelled because of the approaching nor'easter, with refunds offered to ticket holders.

Ed Sheeran’s two concerts at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, scheduled for Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September as part of his Loop Tour, have been cancelled because of the nor’easter bearing down on the US East Coast.

Tour promoter Messina Touring Group said in a statement on Friday morning: “Due to the severe weather warnings in place in Boston and across New England throughout the weekend and following consultation with local officials, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium. The decision was made with the safety of fans, staff and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority.”

Refunds are available at the point of purchase, and fans who bought through Ticketmaster will be refunded automatically, the promoter said.

Venue owner Robert Kraft addressed the cancellation in a statement to TMZ, saying stadium and tour management had spent the past week tracking a severe weather system moving through the Northeast, and that weather — not the tour’s recent controversy — drove the decision.

The Gillette dates had been mired in controversy after rapper Macklemore was dropped as an opening act following pro-Palestine remarks at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on 4 September, with Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and backing band Beoga all pulling out of the tour in solidarity.
