Bangladesh measles death toll reaches 1,099 as three more children die
Three more children have died with measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh, taking the outbreak's confirmed and suspected death toll to 1,099, health directorate data shows.
Three more children have died with measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh, taking the combined toll of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 1,099, according to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The three deaths were recorded in the 24 hours to 8am on Monday, TBS News reported. The DGHS classified all three as suspected measles deaths, taking the suspected death tally to 998, while laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remain at 101.
In the same 24-hour period, 1,214 new suspected measles cases were reported, pushing the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 189,255. Another 101 laboratory-confirmed infections were recorded, taking total confirmed infections to 21,308.
Since 15 March, 167,469 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across Bangladesh, of whom 160,705 have recovered, the DGHS data showed.
