Bangladesh measles death toll passes 1,076 after 11 more die
Eleven more people have died with measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh, taking the combined toll to 1,076, according to DGHS data.
Bangladesh’s measles death toll has risen to 1,076 after 11 more children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours to 8am on Wednesday, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) data reported by TBS News (source).
The DGHS classified all 11 of the new fatalities as suspected measles deaths, the Daily Star reported. With them, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 975, while the confirmed death toll remains unchanged at 101 (source).
The health directorate also recorded 1,157 new suspected measles cases in the 24-hour period, taking the cumulative total nationwide to 183,449. A further 113 laboratory-confirmed cases were recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 20,851.
Since 15 March 2026, a total of 162,048 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country, of whom 155,612 have recovered and been discharged, according to DGHS data.
The Dhaka Tribune reported that six of the 11 newly recorded suspected deaths were in Dhaka, and that four of the deaths had actually occurred on 21 September but were included in Wednesday’s tally because of delays in receiving the information (source).
