DOJ takes Cassidy Hutchinson case to grand jury over Jan 6 testimony
The Justice Department is seeking a federal criminal indictment of former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson over her 2022 Jan 6 testimony, with prosecutors presenting evidence to a grand jury this week.

The Justice Department is seeking a federal criminal indictment of former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson on charges of lying to Congress in her Jan 6 testimony, Punchbowl News reported on Thursday.
Reporter Laura Weiss, citing sources familiar, said DOJ Civil Rights Division prosecutors brought evidence to a federal grand jury on Tuesday and expect to present more evidence and witnesses later this month. She reported that Hutchinson has not been subpoenaed to appear before the panel. (https://dailycaller.com/2026/10/08/doj-seeking-criminal-indictment-cassidy-hutchinson-january-6)
Bloomberg Law, citing sources familiar with the investigation, also reported the department is seeking the indictment. A person familiar told NBC News the DOJ is seeking to indict Hutchinson “on a charge of lying to Congress”, though the case has not yet been presented for indictment. The New York Post reported a federal grand jury was empaneled this week and no indictment had been announced Thursday afternoon. A grand jury presentation is a step toward a possible charge, not a finding of wrongdoing. Hutchinson, an aide to chief of staff Mark Meadows, was a star witness for the House Jan 6 committee. In June 2022 she relayed a secondhand account — attributed to Anthony Ornato — of Trump lunging at the steering wheel of his Secret Service-driven SUV; the vehicle’s driver and other witnesses disputed it. Congressional Republicans referred Hutchinson to the DOJ earlier this year, per NBC News; she has consistently maintained her testimony was truthful.
