Trump Jr privately opposed father's Iran war, Atlantic reports
The Atlantic reports Donald Trump Jr. privately opposed the US-Iran war from the start and told his father so; his spokesman declined comment and the White House dodged questions.
Donald Trump Jr. has privately and repeatedly opposed the United States’ war with Iran — and told his father — according to a report in The Atlantic published on 20 October (https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/2026/10/trump-don-jr-iran-war/689078/).
Two people who have spoken directly with Trump Jr. about the conflict told the magazine he has been against the war from its outset and made his opposition known to the president. A person close to the president’s son said: “Don has kept his views on the subject private, as he would never publicly break with his dad on an issue like this, but I can’t imagine anyone who knows Don would be surprised by his personal views on the subject.”
The Atlantic said a spokesman for Trump Jr. declined to comment, and the White House did not answer its questions about the president’s son. A White House official said in a statement: “Iran has been decimated, and one way or the other, the conflict in Iran will be over very soon.”
It contrasts with the 2024 campaign, when Trump Jr. cast his father as the candidate who would keep America out of another Middle East war — writing on X in April 2024, as Iran launched missiles and drones towards Israel: “Remember when they said Trump would get us into a full-blown war with Iran? … how lucky we were to have Trump, his strength and his resolve.” The US–Iran war began in late February 2026. TMZ’s coverage of the Atlantic report confirmed the two-source account (https://www.tmz.com/2026/10/20/donald-trump-jr-concerned-about-iran-war).
