MK Stalin brands Vijay's TVK a 'Breaking Bad Party' after DRI drug arrest
DMK president MK Stalin on Saturday dubbed the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam a 'Breaking Bad Party' on X, after a TVK functionary was reported arrested by DRI officials in connection with a major methamphetamine seizure.
DMK president M K Stalin launched a sharp political attack on the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Saturday, calling Vijay’s party a “Breaking Bad Party” on X after one of its functionaries was reported arrested in connection with an alleged major drug trafficking case.
“TVK is not just a bad party, but a breaking bad party,” Stalin wrote, according to reports of his post. The DMK chief identified the arrested man as Boopalan, a TVK functionary from Nagapattinam district who serves as the party’s election in-charge for the Kilvelur Assembly constituency, saying he had been arrested by officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), a central government agency.
Stalin claimed that initial investigations showed the functionary had been hiding 135 kilograms of methamphetamine, adding that “he was caught red-handed at the height of his career.” He pointed to the irony of the ruling party facing such allegations “while the Chief Minister has been lecturing from public stages about the eradication of drugs.”
The former Tamil Nadu chief minister demanded a wider investigation, saying that when such a large quantity of narcotics is seized in a single raid, “authorities must identify how many others are behind them and encircle the entire network.” Questioning whether the TVK was preaching against drugs while allegedly operating a large drug network within the party, he added that the party had “earned the reputation of a bad party within just five months of entering politics” and had now been “promoted to a breaking bad party” — an apparent reference to the popular web series about a teacher turned drug manufacturer.
The attack landed as a pointed barb at Vijay’s fledgling ruling outfit, whose administration has made drug eradication a public talking point.
