Trump pledges $5,000 to every adult American if Republicans keep Congress

Donald Trump has promised every adult US citizen a $5,000 payment if Republicans win the House and Senate on November 3, saying tariff revenues would fund the giveaway — but offered no details on cost, funding or legislation.

US President Donald Trump has pledged to pay every adult American $5,000 if Republicans retain control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the November 3 midterm elections.

“If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate, I’m going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America $5,000,” Trump said in a video statement posted to his official X account, GMA News reported.

He said the payments would be possible because the United States was collecting “massive amounts of money through tariffs”. He gave no details on funding, cost, or the legislation required — estimates put the potential cost above $1 trillion, and the proposal would require congressional action, The Times of India reported.

Trump also warned voters that a Democratic victory would bring higher taxes and a severe downturn. “It’ll be a 1929 disaster if they get in,” he said — a reference to the year the US stock market crash helped usher in the Great Depression.

He cited his recent $1,776 payment to members of the US military, saying “Everybody got their money”, and described it as part of what he called the “Trump dividend”, valued at approximately $1 trillion.

“So, thank you and I look forward to signing those checks,” he said.

The proposal is a campaign pledge, not enacted policy: no legislation for the payments exists.
