Trump posts Tom Cotton's phone number over daylight saving feud
Trump posted on Truth Social what he said was Senator Tom Cotton's personal cellphone number, urging Arkansans to call over the senator's block on permanent daylight saving.
President Donald Trump on Saturday posted on Truth Social what he said was the personal cellphone number of Senator Tom Cotton, urging Arkansans to call him over his block on the Sunshine Protection Act, which would make daylight saving time permanent (Reuters).
“Call Tom on his cellphone,” Trump wrote, and: “tell Tom to, GET IT DONE!” He called Cotton “a friend of mine” but said he “is holding up a very important Bill”, adding that in the Senate “it only takes one” (Fox News, USA Today).
Whether the number is actually Cotton’s is unconfirmed. Reuters reached a voicemail box that did not identify itself as his; USA Today tried to call and text, but the messages were undelivered, and the White House did not respond to requests for comment.
Cotton did not address the posting. On X he said “no one likes changing the clock, me included,” but Congress had repealed permanent daylight saving before after Americans experienced “absurdly late sunrises in the winter,” adding he will “always put Arkansas first” (Fox News).
The House passed the bill 308–117 in July; the Senate is out of session until 3 November and cannot vote before then, and Senator John Kennedy called it “dead as disco” this week (Fox News). Trump’s second post in as many days about Cotton’s opposition (Reuters).
Trump has done this before. In 2015 he read out Senator Lindsey Graham’s number at a rally; Graham later joked: “Probably getting a new phone. iPhone or Android?” (USA Today).
