White House removes CNN from TV press pool for second time in a week
CNN was dropped from the rotating TV press pool for Donald Trump's Thursday trip to Texas and Oklahoma, its second removal in a week despite a federal judge's order restoring the network's White House access.
WASHINGTON — The White House has removed CNN from the television press pool covering Donald Trump’s Thursday trip to Texas and Oklahoma, the second time in a week the network has been cut from a scheduled pool rotation despite a federal judge’s order restoring its White House access, The Hill reported.
A source familiar with the situation confirmed to The Hill that the administration will prevent CNN from carrying out its scheduled pool coverage, and the network was not listed as the TV pool outlet in guidance the West Wing distributed to media outlets on Wednesday evening. A CNN representative confirmed the removal to TheWrap, which reported the network had been named as the primary pool outlet for Oct 1 before the schedule was revised. The White House did not respond to requests for comment.
Trump’s Thursday itinerary includes a visit to a truck plant in Denton, Texas, followed by a speech in Durant, Oklahoma, with CNN originally scheduled to travel aboard Air Force One and provide pool coverage on the ground, according to Rawstory, citing NBC News.
The latest removal follows Saturday’s incident in which the White House barred CNN from flying on Air Force One to a college football game in Tennessee, days after U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly granted a temporary restraining order against the administration’s September 18 ban of CNN, MS NOW and Politico, the Wall Street Journal reported. Judge Kelly’s order restored the networks’ credentials but did not explicitly settle the separate question of who gets to travel aboard Air Force One or rotate through the TV pool.
