The 2026 Nobel Prize announcements begin today, Monday 5 October, with the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet in Solna revealing the prize in physiology or medicine at 11:30 CEST (09:30 GMT) at the earliest.

The six prizes will be announced daily through 12 October. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announces the physics prize on Tuesday 6 October at 11:45 CEST and the chemistry prize on Wednesday 7 October at the same hour. The Swedish Academy names the literature laureate on Thursday 8 October at 13:00 CEST. The Norwegian Nobel Committee announces the peace prize in Oslo on Friday 9 October at 11:00 CEST, and the week closes on Monday 12 October with the economics prize at 11:45 CEST. Announcements stream live on the Nobel Prize’s official channels.

Research behind weight-loss drugs is among the most-tipped work for the medicine prize this year. David Pendlebury, who heads research analysis at data analytics firm Clarivate, told AFP that a prize recognising the work is “a likelihood”. The regularly cited names are Canadian endocrinologist Daniel Drucker of the University of Toronto, Danish physician Jens Juul Holst of the University of Copenhagen, and chemist Svetlana Mojsov of Rockefeller University — all three named as Clarivate Citation Laureates for the identification and characterisation of the appetite-regulating hormone GLP-1.
