Giants beat Texans 27-21 in overtime as Singletary runs in walk-off score in McCarthy's first start
Devin Singletary's 30-yard touchdown run in overtime gave the New York Giants a 27-21 win over the Houston Texans in J.J. McCarthy's first start for the team.
Devin Singletary ran for a 30-yard touchdown in overtime to give the New York Giants a 27-21 victory over the Houston Texans in Houston on Sunday, Reuters reports.
The Texans punted on the first possession of overtime, and the Giants needed only two plays to win it. J.J. McCarthy completed a nine-yard pass to Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo ran 42 yards to the Houston 30, and Singletary — a former Texan — broke free for the winning score on the next play, with 2:35 gone in the extra period.
The win came in McCarthy’s first start for the Giants. He completed 20 of 28 passes for 252 yards, while Skattebo carried 17 times for 124 yards and Nabers caught seven passes for 111 yards, according to Reuters. Skattebo had no touches the previous week after a fumbling problem, but returned to score a 16-yard fourth-quarter touchdown and set up the winner.
Houston had forced overtime with 52 seconds remaining in regulation, when C.J. Stroud found Xavier Hutchinson for a three-yard touchdown to tie the game at 21. Stroud finished 17 of 28 for 153 yards and two touchdowns, but the Texans fell to 2-5 and 0-4 at home, while the Giants improved to 4-2-1, NBC Sports reports.
