Manhunt after police officer shot in Nottingham city centre
A police officer is in a stable condition in hospital after being shot in the foot in Nottingham city centre; a man and a woman fled the scene and a firearm has been recovered.
A police officer was shot in Nottingham city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning, Nottinghamshire Police said, and a manhunt is under way for two suspects who fled the scene (The Times).
The male officer approached two suspects in Angel Row shortly before 4.50am on Sunday and was shot in the foot; he was taken to hospital, where he is in a stable condition. A firearm was recovered, and photographs from the scene showed what appeared to be a sawn-off shotgun lying on the ground (Sky News, The Times).
The two suspects, a man and a woman, fled immediately and remain at large. Angel Row, a street lined with shops and restaurants, stayed closed on Sunday afternoon behind a large police cordon, with a heightened police presence across the city centre. Detectives say they are making “good progress” in identifying those responsible and there is currently no information to suggest a wider threat to the public (The Times).
Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas said: “This is a shocking incident and a sobering reminder of the potential dangers faced by officers as they work to protect and serve the public,” adding that her thoughts were with the injured officer, his family and colleagues, and appealing for witnesses: “Even the smallest bit of information could make all the difference to this investigation” (The Times).
The Police Federation of England and Wales called the shooting “a stark reminder of the dangers police officers face every day while protecting the public”. Labour MP Nadia Whittome said she wished the officer “a full and speedy recovery”, and city council leader Neghat Khan said incidents of this nature were “extremely rare” and Nottingham remained a safe city (The Times). Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 106 of October 18, 2026 (British Bulletin).
