Jordan’s air force struck what it described as militant positions in southern Syria on Monday, in retaliation for Friday’s attack on a Greek Orthodox church in Karak that killed nine people, Jordan’s military said (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/oct/26/jordan-attacks-militants-syria-retaliation-for-last-week-church-attack).

The Jordanian military said the operation killed and wounded many members of the groups targeted and destroyed a number of their vehicles, according to state media reporting of the military statement. It did not name the groups, give a precise casualty figure for the strikes, or specify the exact locations hit, and there was no immediate comment from Syrian officials.

The strikes followed the arrest on Monday of three suspects over Friday’s attack, after a shootout in Karak governorate. Gunmen had opened fire during a funeral at St George’s Greek Orthodox Church in the village of Hamoud, in Karak governorate in southern Jordan, killing nine people.

No group has claimed responsibility for the church attack. King Abdullah II condemned the shooting and ordered security forces to respond with an “iron fist”, Reuters reported.

The strikes are a new development following Jordan’s arrests over the church attack, which Flip News has already covered.
