Three people were killed on Tuesday as a Russian drone struck near the highway from Kyiv to the Black Sea port of Odesa, the Kyiv regional prosecutor’s office said.

Several cars were set ablaze and four people were wounded in the attack, the office said in a Telegram post. The strike was recorded in the settlement of Chabany, in the Fastiv district, close to a shopping centre, and traffic along that section of the highway was restricted, prosecutors said. A pre-trial investigation has been opened into violations of the laws and customs of war.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, earlier described the attack as “another enemy attack on civilians who were simply driving to work or going about their business”.

The strike was one of several Russian attacks across Ukraine overnight. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said three people were killed and six wounded in a strike on a production and storage building in the Obukhiv district of Kyiv region, while a drone attack on the city of Izium in the Kharkiv region injured five more.

Moscow’s defence ministry separately claimed its forces had struck Ukrainian logistics and port infrastructure, including a centre in Khmelnytskyi, a transport centre in Kovel in the Volyn region, and three cargo vessels at the port of Reni in the Odesa region. It also said Russian air defences intercepted 136 Ukrainian drones across 15 Russian regions overnight. Those claims have not been independently verified.
