Man Group deepens Meiji Yasuda tie-up with 200bn yen commitment and possible 5% stake

Man Group has expanded its strategic partnership with Japan's Meiji Yasuda, which intends to commit 200 billion yen to Man Group's investment strategies over three years and consider buying an equity stake of about 5%.

Man Group has expanded its strategic partnership with Japan’s Meiji Yasuda Insurance Company, with the Japanese insurer intending to increase its capital commitment to Man Group’s investment strategies to 200 billion yen (about $1.28 billion, according to Reuters) over the next three years, with a particular focus on private credit.

The expanded partnership, announced on Monday, builds on an agreement first announced in February 2025. Man Group said the deal supports its ambition to grow its private credit platform and serve large insurance clients globally.

The two firms will also work together to develop new products for the Japanese market. Man Group will become a preferred asset management partner for Meiji Yasuda, giving the insurer access to investment advisory services through the Oxford-Man Institute.

Meiji Yasuda will also consider acquiring an equity stake of approximately 5% in Man Group to further align the two firms’ interests. Any acquisition would be made through open-market purchases, with no new shares issued by Man Group, Reuters reported.

Any share acquisition would be subject to a three-year lock-up period, a 19.99% ownership cap and orderly market arrangements for future disposals, Reuters reported.
