American Horror Story: 13 premiered on FX and Hulu on Thursday 24 September, reuniting franchise favourites for what showrunner Ryan Murphy has described as an “Avengers”-style crossover spanning past seasons, USA Today and Hypebeast reported.

The 13th instalment brings back Jessica Lange — her first appearance in the franchise since 2018’s Apocalypse — alongside Sarah Paulson as Cordelia Goode, Evan Peters as Tate Langdon, Angela Bassett as Marie Laveau, Kathy Bates as Madame Delphine LaLaurie, Emma Roberts as Madison Montgomery, plus Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman. New faces include John Waters, Madelaine Petsch and pop star Ariana Grande.

The season comprises 13 half-hour episodes drawing on Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show and Cult, with several actors portraying multiple legacy characters. Three episodes dropped on premiere night, with three more in week two and double-episode drops each following Friday until the finale on 30 October.

In the UK, the season premieres on Disney+ on Friday 25 September, Disney confirmed. Bassett told Good Morning America the role was “one of the most exhilarating characters of my entire career”.
