Rose Tattoo frontman Gary "Angry" Anderson has died aged 79, his family and the band have announced; he died on the evening of Monday 21 September, surrounded by loved ones in Australia.

In a joint statement released on Wednesday, they said Anderson died on the evening of Monday 21 September, surrounded by his loved ones in Australia. No cause of death was disclosed. The family and band have asked for privacy and said they will not give interviews.
Anderson had been in hospital since August after suffering a cardiac arrest during Rose Tattoo’s farewell European tour, which was cut short as a result. The tour had been billed as the band’s last, marking half a century on the road.
Born Gary Stephen Anderson in Melbourne on 5 August 1947, he joined Rose Tattoo in 1976 and became the voice of Australian pub rock, fronting anthems including “Bad Boy for Love”, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Outlaw” and “We Can’t Be Beaten”. His 1987 solo single “Suddenly” was a UK chart hit.
Beyond music, Anderson was a noted youth advocate and was made a Member of the Order of Australia on Australia Day 1993 for his charity work. Rose Tattoo were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006.
