Carrot Top has broken his silence for the first time since he was hospitalised in Las Vegas, posting an emotional message to fans on Instagram on Saturday and confirming he will return to the stage at the Luxor Hotel and Casino on 19 October.

“I’m truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support, prayers, and well wishes I’ve received over the past couple of weeks,” the 61-year-old comedian wrote. “While I haven’t been able to respond to everyone individually, please know that I’ve felt your love and appreciate each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart.” He closed the post by thanking fans for being there for him during “this time”.

It is the first time Thompson has spoken publicly since he was hospitalised on 18 September, after TMZ reported that he had attempted to take his own life. His representative, Jami Schlicher, told USA Today on 21 September that he was “hospitalised and under close medical care” but “breathing on his own and continuing to improve, surrounded by his family and those closest to him”. Schlicher did not comment on the reason for the hospitalisation.

The Times of India confirmed the statement as his first, and The Blast reported the 19 October show at the Atrium Showroom is expected to draw a sold-out crowd. Thompson has headlined his residency at the Luxor since 2005.
