Carrot Top hospitalised in Las Vegas after reported suicide attempt; Luxor show cancelled
The 61-year-old comedian, real name Scott Thompson, was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital on Friday night and his Luxor residency show was cancelled; his representative says he is recovering and asks for privacy.
Carrot Top has been hospitalised in Las Vegas following a reported suicide attempt on Friday night, forcing the cancellation of his long-running Luxor residency show.
TMZ first reported that Scott Thompson, 61, was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital on Friday 18 September, citing sources familiar with the situation, and the comedian’s representative confirmed the hospitalisation. “Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs,” his representative Jami Schlicher told TMZ. “His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy,” the New York Post reported. Schlicher did not address the specifics surrounding the hospitalisation, TheWrap reported.
The incident led to the immediate cancellation of his Friday night performance at the Luxor, where Thompson has held a residency since 2005 — currently the longest-running residency in Las Vegas, according to TheWrap.
Thompson, born in Rockledge, Florida in 1965, rose to prominence in the 1990s with his prop-heavy stand-up and late-night television appearances, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman (Just Jared).
