Dennis Haskins’ official cause of death has been revealed as Parkinson’s disease, according to a death certificate from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health obtained by TMZ and reported by Entertainment Weekly.

The document also lists irritable bowel syndrome, depression, hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia as other significant conditions. Haskins, who died last month aged 75, had privately battled Parkinson’s for the last eight years, according to his friend and caretaker Kimberly Snow, who told The New York Times he had lived in an assisted living facility since his diagnosis.

His ex-wife, Sarah Quinones, also confirmed the Parkinson’s diagnosis to TMZ, saying he did not want anyone to know he was suffering from the illness and had stopped returning calls and texts from those checking up on him.

Haskins played Principal Richard Belding on Saved by the Bell for four seasons from 1989 to 1993, originating the role on Good Morning, Miss Bliss. He starred alongside Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tiffani Thiessen, Elizabeth Berkley, Mario Lopez, Lark Voorhies and Dustin Diamond, who died in 2021.

His agent, Jay Schachter, previously called his death a “tragic loss”, saying: “Everyone loved Mr. Belding and those of us who got to know Dennis loved him even more.” Voorhies paid tribute on Instagram, writing that knowing Haskins for almost 40 years had been “one of the truest blessings of my life”.
