Eva Marie Saint, Oscar winner for On the Waterfront, dies aged 102
Eva Marie Saint, whose Oscar-winning film debut in On the Waterfront launched a seven-decade career crowned by North by Northwest and a Primetime Emmy, has died at 102.

Eva Marie Saint, whose Academy Award-winning film debut in On the Waterfront launched a screen career spanning seven decades, has died at the age of 102.
Her representative said she died on Tuesday of natural causes at her Los Angeles home, surrounded by family and loved ones, Deadline reported. No further details were given.
Saint won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for playing Edie Doyle opposite Marlon Brando in Elia Kazan’s On the Waterfront (1954), a film that took eight Academy Awards including Best Picture. She went on to star as Eve Kendall opposite Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest (1959), and won a Primetime Emmy in 1990 for the NBC miniseries People Like Us.
Her other screen roles included A Hatful of Rain, Raintree County, Exodus, The Sandpiper, The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming, Grand Prix, Superman Returns and Winter’s Tale. Until her death she was the oldest living Academy Award winner.
Born on 4 July 1924 in Newark, New Jersey, she studied at Bowling Green State University and with Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio. She is survived by her children Darrell and Laurette; her husband of 65 years, director Jeffrey Hayden, died in December 2016.
