Jay-Z accuser fully recants in court declaration — 'There is no truth to any of my claims'
Jane Doe, who accused Jay-Z of sexual assault in 2024, has signed a sworn 12-page court declaration saying her claims were false and that she never met the rapper.
The woman who accused Jay-Z of sexual assault in 2024 has fully recanted her claims in a sworn court declaration, saying there was “no truth” to any of her allegations against the rapper and that she had never met him.
In the 12-page declaration submitted on Thursday to a Manhattan federal court and obtained by Rolling Stone, the accuser — identified as Jane Doe — wrote: “Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter never raped me. I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter never engaged in any inappropriate conduct toward me whatsoever.”
She continued: “There is no truth to any of my claims against Mr. Carter. I understand my false accusations have caused Mr. Carter immense pain, suffering, and damage that can never be fully undone.”
The declaration also states that she disclosed “mental health conditions” to her legal team before they publicly named Jay-Z in the December 2024 lawsuit, and that she was not paid or promised anything in exchange for the statement.
Her new lawyer, James Blair Newman Jr., said in a statement that his client “maintains that she was a victim of sexual assault, but she was entirely mistaken in her allegations identifying Mr. Carter, and those allegations were false,” adding that she “sincerely and unconditionally apologizes” to Jay-Z and his family.
The original lawsuit accused Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping her after a 2000 MTV Video Music Awards afterparty, when she said she was 13. The case against Jay-Z was dismissed in February 2025; Jay-Z is dropping Jane Doe as a defendant in his ongoing malicious-prosecution lawsuit against lawyer Tony Buzbee.
